KwaZulu-Natal is South Africa's most easterly province and it is brushed by the warm Indian Ocean from Black Rock in the ecologically sensitive Maputaland - one of the last wilderness areas in Africa - in the north, to the port cities of Richard's Bay and Durban and the holiday resorts of Port Edward in the south. The province stretches inland touching the mountain kingdoms of Lesotho and Swaziland and encompasses truly spectacular scenic beauty ranging from the impressive snow-capped Drakensberg mountains in the west, to the sub-tropical wildlife conservancies of Hluhluwe, Umfolozi and St. Lucia and the wetlands of Cape Vidal and Sodwana in the east. KwaZulu-Natal reflects the tumultuous past of this country - from battlefield sites to untouched wilderness areas - and offers hope for the future, thereby ensuring its status as a "must see".
